Shovlhead Report post Posted August 27, 2017 Hello everyone! So I am building an old Harley and wanted a hand tooled leather seat. Well, they are expensive and I am handy so I gave it a try. Of course I watched some YouTube videos first! Now I have WAY more than the seat would cost invested in tools and I am having a blast. My daughter (10yr old) and I work on leather projects almost daily now. We visit the local leather shop weekly for supplies and project ideas. We even took a class on finishing leather with paint, antiques, dyes and Protectants. 2 months ago I don't think I could even spell leather and now I am making really cool stuff out of it. I stumbled upon this site when researching sewing techniques. More specifically HD machines and their capablities. Looking forward to making a few friends in Leather and some fun. billybopp Report post Posted August 27, 2017 Welcome to the obsession. No doubt buying that seat would've been far less expensive, but then again, the pride of making is yourself is priceless as is working with your daughter! Bill
RhodesAveDesigns Report post Posted August 27, 2017 That you are taking the time to work with your daughter on leather projects is truly heartwarming. I always love hearing about parents encouraging their kids to make things, let alone teaching and learning with them, it fosters creativity as well as problem solving abilities, all necessary skills. Congratulations!
