Consew 254rb

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

There is a ton of good info on machines here but I can't seem to find much info on the 254rb. I found a 254rb2 with servo motor not too far from me and looking to sew belts and holsters, 20 oz total st the heaviest, along with canvas.

The info I have found from the Consew site is a little confusing and contradictory. The flyer says the 255 is triple feed and 254 is needle drop feed. When you look at the individual machine info they both say walking foot as well.

Any light you can shed and advice on the 254rb would be appreciated.

Consew 255RB series is true walking foot; top presser foot, bottom feeder, needle feed, with alternating presser feet.

The 254RB is the same, except that it is a needle feed only and feed dog only, and the top foot is fixed, on a hinge, and has constant pressure on the goods being sewn.

Consew 254RB does not have alternating presser feet.

This is not a problem, as long as the material can slide on the top foot if it is not rubberized or gummy.  It has to be able to slip.  Also, the needle feed will not climb over inconsistencys or heavy seams in the material like a true walking will.  All of the spec. sheets on the Consew and Seiko explain this, but it can still be confusing, and hope this helps.  It's a really good machine if it works for you.  I also think that calling both a drop feed is not at all misleading, but maybe a bit confusing as well.

Consew's website has downloads that are pretty clear about this, CLICK HERE

Thanks Greg that is perfect and where I found the correct info. What is confusing is when you go to the products page http://www.consew.com/List/Lockstitch-Sewing/Flat-Bed and look at the descriptions they are the same, both say triple feed. Only in the PDF do they explain the difference.

Im guessing these machines run up to 207 thread?

And how do these machines compare these say a juki 563? They look to be similar but are they the same class machine? Advantages over one?

207 Top thread, 138 in the bobbin.  I'm sure you can find much more information on this message board for sure.  The Juki  LU-563 and Consew 255RB series are top loading, large bobbin, walking feet machines.  They were made over a long period of time, and the quality is good.  As said, the Consew 254RB is a needle feed only, where the LU-563 was only a walking foot series.
