BettyJ Report post Posted November 16, 2017 Hi all Wow it's been a long time since I've been on here! I plan on rectifying that mistake and being on here a lot more. So much knowledge! I'm hoping for some advice before I make an expensive mistake and order the wrong foot. I'm on the hunt for a piping foot for my lovely old Juki DSC 245-4 machine. Essentially, I've been sent a catalogue and the foot that looks like what I want is the cut out tail for piping foot. But, I'm not sure if the piping foot would be better. I've attached an image for ease of reference. I believe that the cut out foot would give more flexibility in the size of piping than the other foot. As I don't know what size piping I will always be sewing, this may be an issue. I'm hoping someone on here could help share their wisdom on this. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Uwe Report post Posted November 16, 2017 (edited) I'd recommend a complete set of piping feet to match various piping tasks. The Juki DSC-245 shares feet with the very common Juki LU-563 (and Singer 111W155, etc.) A complete set of six different size piping feet is available for under $50 in the U.S. Our resident LW vendors may have some, too. Piping feet work best when they're the right size for the task at hand. For example, making just the piping from scratch with cord and material strips takes a smaller foot than when you assemble the piping project with several layers of material. When the piping foot is the right size, it works like magic. When you're trying to use one size piping foot for all piping tasks, you will be very frustrated. One of my clients was trying to make piping-edged boat seat covers with just the one piping foot that came with the machine. When I finally convinced her to buy a full set, it was like an angel choir was singing above her head when she was sewing. Too small and the foot won't set all the way down over the piping and you'll get slipping, and the stitching will waver. Too big and the piping will wander around under the foot. It's especially maddening with slippery materials. The right size will lock it all down.
BettyJ Report post Posted November 16, 2017 Oh wow, thanks so much guys. This is great to know. I'll go look into this now. I was originally thinking I'd be paying $200 or more for a foot and I wasn't sure which size or what it was that I needed. Thank you!
