Mattsbagger Report post Posted November 16, 2017 I've been making simple mouse pads with felt glued to the back. Then I saddle stitch around it and edge finish. I use contact cement but some time it seeps through the felt looking bad. Also when I'm mounting it to the leather i roll it with a rolling pin to get it stuck good at the edges. More than once I didn't see any seep but wen I flip it to roll the leather side contact cement has transferred to the unfinished leather. Is there a better glue to use? I'm not sure spray contact adhesive will work good enough on the edges.
fredk Report post Posted November 16, 2017 Any liquid adhesive can seep thru or at the edges. As you are sewing the felt to the leather, hows about double sided adhesive tape? It can be bought 2 inches or more wide so only a couple or three strips put across will cover the size of the mat. Quick, easy, mess free.

Quick, easy, mess free. I thought about that. But I worry about separation at the edge. It's sewn at 1/8 inch at about 8 spi. Also I burnish the edges not paint and worry about seeing the tape. Sounds like experiment time.
fredk Report post Posted November 16, 2017 Here we have two quite similar tube contact adhesives; UHU and Bostick. They are both rather thick, the Bostick being more rubbery than the UHU. I usually use the UHU. I run a bead along the edge of parts to be joined, let dry for a few moments then stick together. It doesn't take much to make the join, not enough to seep thru the thickness, and if I get it right, none squeeezed out the join. Hows about using a glue like that along the edges but double sided tape on the inner part?
Mattsbagger Report post Posted November 16, 2017 I've never seen UHU here in the States. I might look for something thing thicker than regular contact cement. Fanks! (That's my London accent lol)
