willpatrick123 Report post Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) Hi all, I am new to this, leather crafting and have decided to get a Sewing Machine, I have had the latest singer sewing machine and after a few days use it decided to break on me, so I have read up that the older treadle machines are built to last, actually my grandma has one (but doesn't use it anymore) but still work even without maintenance. so here is my question, what is the best Treadle Machine for leather works? what I want to do is Cowboy hats (for sun protection), IPhone Wallet, Belts, Jackets, Antique Repairs (Seat Leather Replacement), Carry Case bags, laptop leather protector, and more. I am not looking at becoming a Producer, but I just need something that can stich things together quicker then hand, if it looks acceptable and works I am Happy. I read about the 29k, which is something I like, but so many models I am confused, what is the best model, Large bobbin, etc? I just hate the fact that is not in a desk transform and would be easy to store, but if that is the best then maybe I should go for it. I do not trust Motors anymore as I have been burnt so many times, even with an Antique one, (that was about 20 years ago), I forgot the model number as my mum got it for me. another I heard about is the Adler 30-7. Wizcrafts Report post Posted December 9, 2017 I recommend that later models of Singer and Adler patchers. I have (and will sell) a long arm, big bobbin Singer 29k172. It has universal feed (as do all patchers), takes up to #138 thread and has an 18 inch long arm with a narrow snout. I also have an Adler 30-7, which is similar, but lifts higher and sews a little thicker. The only real difference between the two machines is that the Adler 30-7 takes a much longer needle system, 332 LLG, than the Singer 29 machines. Also, I was fortunate enough to get the Adler on a power stand, whereas the Singer is on a treadle base. This is a photo of the Singer 29k172 (one of the last model 29k, made in Japan). Constabulary Report post Posted December 9, 2017 Agree - Adler 30-7 can sew a bit thicker approx 2mm more than the 29K72 /29K172 But if a patcher machine is a good patcher machine always depend on it´s overall condition - if worn out you will not have much fun with them. If they are in good condition both (Adler and Singer) do a good job - if you put them into the right job Keep in mind patchers are sewing machines mainly for repairing things!
