navyrob74 Report post Posted December 14, 2017 Hi everyone, I am new to leather working and am in the process of getting my stamp. I don't have an issue spending the money on quality but was wondering if there really is a difference in the ones you get from Tandy ie: there pro stamps or spending the extra and getting hand made stamps from Barry King? I am looking at getting basketweave, bevlers and background stamps. Any advise would be great. Thanks
garypl Report post Posted December 14, 2017 Welcome! I am also learning and trying to determine which stamps to use, so I have been buying Tandy stamps (they are on sale until Dec 16 for $2.99). Some of the stamps I have bought were not the best quality, but they allow me to experiment and learn which tools I will be using in the future. I may decide to buy some higher quality stamps at that time, but for now I am having fun learning with the I nexpensive stamps (most of which work just fine!) Rossr Report post Posted December 14, 2017 I am self taught thanks to great forums like this and you tube videos. Just my opinion but starting out I see nothing wrong with tandy craftools. I dont have any pro craftools but have read some positive things. It seems the progression as you get better and learn is to get the more expensive stamps like Barry king. From what I have read and seen in posts they make a sharper impression in a lot of cases. I have some of the older craftools and they do make a nicer impression then the newer ones. Ebay is a good place to grab a lot of stamps too Biggest thing to me is get started and try things and learn as you go along Welcome to the Journey its a fun trip Ross
