Need to make a holster

Recommended Posts

Well I recently bought a Charter Pathfinder 4" which is a small 22 revolver . Well the only holster I can find is nylon and I'm a leather kinda guy .After looking around at a few sites including this one I have decided I can do this and for a change get exactly what I want .I think it will also be a nice skill to go along with my outdoor "ways" .I am trying to determine what I need to get started and I have decided a good book on making leather goods is the way to start .Can anyone suggest a book and is there a basic tool kit I can buy somewhere ? Thanks

HI Ramjet,

Welcome to the site! For a beginner, the "How to Make Holsters" by Al Stolhman is absolutely the best. You can get it from Tandy Leather for about $10 and it answers questions about types of holsters, measuring and drawing you holster's design, sewing versus lacing the seams, and probably some stuff you haven't even thought of. I bought this book in 1981 in Cherry Hill, NJ and every holster I carried on duty since that day was made using what I learned from that book. Good luck and have fun.

Mike

Al Stohlmans book "HOW TO MAKE HOLSTERS" would be the perfect item for you.

it has patterns, how to make your own patterns, tools to use and how to hand sew..

First welcome to the forum.

In addition to Al Stolhman's book, take some time to read through the postings on this forum. There is a wealth of information. You may also want to check out pistolsmith.com, they also have a holster and belt forum with around 39 pages of information about holsters.

Another good site for holster info is www.pistolsmith.com, look in the Holster section. Some of the top makers in the country post in that forum.
