Glue for wet leather

Recommended Posts

Interested in making two ply leather bowls. First layer will be formed on a round wood form and tacked in place while wet and forming. After it dries to shape I will be applying second layer overtop of first layer by the same method. Question what type of glue is needed that will work with wet leather to bond both layers together.  Hope this makes sense.

I know bowls are made like this . I could be wrong in the process if so please advise.

Ok looks like there some water activated glues that may work. I will do a little research on brands and types.

I glued two pieces of wet veg tan together with Weldwood contact cement (red can) just to see how well it would hold the wet leather together.  To my surprise it seemed just about as strong as dry leather when using the same glue!  Test it for yourself.

Hi Kenl, Barge cement if allowed to dry well before wetting the leather will still do a good job when two pieces are put together.
