Members txgunjack Posted February 8, 2018 Members Report Posted February 8, 2018 I want to start making some of my own custom leather stamps. Just for me initially. If it goes well I may share. But i am curious how to make the lines and checkers in say a lined or checkered beveler or a backgrounding tool. I have the steel. I have some other specialty items for engraving and knurling. Also, do most stamp makers heat treat/harden their stamps. i don't think it would be necessary. I have seen so many nails that were made into custom stamps and they don't likely treat such a cheap tool. But i know Robert Beard is said to have heat hardened his to a 58 Rockwell scale hardness. Any tool makers willing to share their knowledge? Quote

Contributing Member fredk Posted February 8, 2018 Contributing Member Report Posted February 8, 2018 I think hardening is an option but not necessary as stamps can be made out of Delrin or brass as well as iron and steel Quote
