Members Kenl Posted April 11, 2018 Members Report Posted April 11, 2018 I have been looking at the table top 6 inch leather splitter. Would appreciate any comments on how good they work for reducing thickness for small straps and tapering the ends of belts. Thanks Ken Quote
bikermutt07 Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 From what I here they work pretty good. I have an 8" heritage splitter. It has a locking handle feature that I think is invaluable. The 6" ones do not have this feature. I believe all splitters have a depth stop. That's all I got, sorry. Quote
Members YinTx Posted April 11, 2018 Members Report Posted April 11, 2018 Bruce Johnson has a really good write up on the various types of leather splitters that you may find an invaluable resource before selecting the type of splitter you need. It is on his website. There are some that lap skive, some that don't, etc, so depending on what you need it to do, as to what kind you should get. In my case, I ended up with a crank splitter, and a manual splitter that does lap skives, similar to the Heritage splitter bikermutt07 mentions. YinTx Quote
