This is my first time posting on a forum but I really think that this is going to be the best way to get the information I am looking for.  I have been hand sewing small leather projects for a couple of years now for personal use and for gifts.  Recently a couple of people have asked me to make specific things for them like belts, holsters, and even luggage.  I really want to get set up to produce more items but I want to do it more efficiently.  I would like to get some advice about a sewing machine that can be used for my upcoming leather projects particularly small luggage and can also be used to sew heavy material like canvas for tents and tarps.  I have researched some heavy duty machines but I'm wondering if I need to look for a machine with a post or cylinder bed instead of a flat bed so that I can sew a greater variety of things.  I'm willing to spend some money on this because I love working with these projects and it feels like it recharges my batteries after working my full time job.  I am looking forward to the advice of the forum.  Thanks in advance.

If you change the title of your post to be more specific (i.e. asking about machine advice instead of just setting up a workshop) you should more quickly get the attention of the sewing machine experts of the forum.
While you wait for their input -- have you searched the forum for posts about flat bed. vs. cylinder or post? I bet this topic has been addressed at least once in the past, and perhaps the thread discussions will give you good information.

Since you are in Ohio, take a ride up to Toledo and talk with Cowboy Bob - he can help you pick out a machine.  His link is in the banner ads at the top of the page.
