Members MelissaBekkum Posted July 4, 2018 Members Report Posted July 4, 2018 I am making a heat shield for my motorcycle, I have my pieces cut out and dyed. After I got this far, I was like "Should I have glued my two layers of 4 oz veg tan leather before dying? When do I add the satin sheen?" I plan on gluing it down then stitching around the edge. I just want to make sure with my next project to do it in the correct order. TYSVM! Quote
Members YinTx Posted July 8, 2018 Members Report Posted July 8, 2018 Having never made a heat shield for a motorcycle, you can take my experience with a grain of salt. I usually cut, (tool if you are going to), dye, oil/nourish leather, resist and antique if tooled, seal (satin sheen, resolene, acrylic, whatever your preference), glue, edge, stitch, retouch edges and finish if needed. there is flexibility in the order in which you do things, so experiment and get experienced!
