Jordan Report post Posted February 9, 2008 I finished the P89 holster this am. Except for a clear acrylic. 7/8 wt. leather, Hand sewn with waxed thread, finished with blockout on the basketweave, neetsfoot oil on the inside, ecoflo prarie (sp) tan diluted in half with water, black dye on edges and wet moulded by hand. Turned out ok and I learned alot of details like the need to sew the belt loop on straighter and that I need to make alot more patterns to work out the kinks. rdb Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Personally, I think that's the best piece you've shown on this forum to date. Excellent work. You deserve two pats on the back.
Jordan Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Alot to learn, so little time LOL. I'll just keep on learning as I go. As soon as I can get some spare cash I am investing in the Bianchi DVD. And I need to get out more and visit some shops to look at the holsters out there.
Randyc Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Jordan Your P89 holster turned real well. The more ya build, the better you do get. Your stitching and overall design looks real fine too. At least in my neck of the country, the selection of holsters in a typical gun shop is pretty poor. Mostly kydex "tupperware" and Uncle Mikes "frabricware" holsters. It never ceases to amaze me how people will spend $500-$1,200 or more on a handgun and carry it in a "crap" holster." I've sold a few holsters to the guys I work with at the PD. I only charge then enough to cover the cost of the blue gun. One guy thought I was charging too much at $40.00, so no holster for him. Keep building then holsters. Jordan Report post Posted February 9, 2008 (edited) In the spring I am going to do a farmers market thing again, and try a few other venues, by that time my work should show pretty good improvement. I figured to start at $89.95 and go up from there. The way I see it if a person wants one they will buy it if not, oh well, they can buy a keyfob or zippo case. I am going to take along some tools and stuff so the customers will see some of what it is all about. I read in other threads and elswhere that it is a pretty good sales tool, besides I'm just settin there anyway might as well play. Randy I can hear it now, just like the seinfeld episode " No Soup For You!"....."No Holster For You!" Edited February 10, 2008 by Jordan
BOOMSTICKHolsters Report post Posted February 10, 2008 WOOHOO! It's done. I've been waiting to see how this one was gonna turn out. It really is a unique spin on a classic design. I think that's your best one so far, Jordan.
Jordan Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Thank you all for the kind words and tips. It is great to have such an active board to post to. It really helps to get input good or bad for learning process. Well, it's on to the next project, my bible needs a cover and I need to learn to do zippers, so I can make some pistol cases too. Warren Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Jordan be sure to post those when you get them done. Not very many pistol cases on here. Warren
Chipperi Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Hey no screw up or mishap...it's just added re-enforcement!! Looks good.
TwinOaks Report post Posted February 16, 2008 Jordan, your work has inspired me to make a holster for my HK USP along the same design. I think I prefer a little cant to the holster. Is this an original design or a modification of an existing design? In any case, I like it.
Warren Report post Posted February 16, 2008 Mike, that is cool! I love the two-tone effect. Very nicely done! I'm going to have to try my hand at a holster like these when I get caught up with everything thats on my bench now. So far all I've done so far are old west style and hunting bandolier style holsters. I have a couple of pistols I can use to experiment with, so I'll give it a try. Thanks, Warren
Jordan Report post Posted February 16, 2008 I just sat down with some graph paper and a bluegun and started drawing. I am sure that I had seen holsters similar, but didn't have one in front of me, so yes I guess you could say it was a Jordan Original. Your's turned out great I like the twotone and the moulding. TwinOaks Report post Posted February 16, 2008 I'll make another when my wife gets her M&P compact in the next week or so, so I should be able to improve the little things:) I made that last night out of some ?scrap? leather I picked up. I think it's about 8/9 oz and the boning was a devil of a task. I really see what you meant about getting the belt loops to line up. The finish is really just opposite of yours, as far as dark on light vs. light on dark. I used med. brwn Fiebings applied by brush, then Neat-lac'd the whole thing. Thanks for the clarification on the design, and for those who ask about it, you'll definitely get the credit for the design. My wife will be wearing hers 'open carry' at the little store she works at, and she gets quite a few LEOs dropping in. If there's an interest in the design I'll steer them your way...until I design something as good but different that is. Off topic here, but my wife is wondering if anyone knows what will take Fiebing's med. brwn off of a kitchen table....
Regis Report post Posted February 16, 2008 Off topic here, but my wife is wondering if anyone knows what will take Fiebing's med. brwn off of a kitchen table.... Simple Green and cleanser got it off my counter top.....If table is wood, I'd leave off the cleanser and just rub longer. Please don't ask how I know
