Members spwhite Posted August 31, 2018 Members Report Posted August 31, 2018 When stitching with a contrasting color thread say on a black holster how do I stop the thread from picking up the black dye and making the thread look dirty. I tried using red thread on a black holster that I died let the died dry overnight but still the Red Thread picked up the Black die Quote
Members byggyns Posted August 31, 2018 Members Report Posted August 31, 2018 First, let the dye dry for a long period of time and buff the hell out of it. You don't want your rag to pick up any dye. Then, add more wax to the thread, and re-wax often. You can scrape the excess wax off once the stitching is complete, and the wax picks up a large portion of the rubbed off dye. Quote
Members chiefjason Posted August 31, 2018 Members Report Posted August 31, 2018 Some dyes are worse than others. Feibings Pro Oil Dye does not seem to bleed for me, even with white thread. USMC Black never seems to NOT bleed. Might want to add about a foot of extra thread and hope the extra thread catches most of the dye that rubs off too. Quote
