Moderator Johanna Posted August 30, 2006 Moderator Report Posted August 30, 2006 I stumbled on a woodworking site and this leather tool roll caught my eye. Note the price for just the tool roll. Yes, it's ON SALE for $50. Try not to choke on your coffee. It has twelve pockets and can come with fancy tools, and when you see those woodcarving tool prices, you may be relieved that you do leather. I guess I should be happy that the tools don't come wrapped in nylon... And is that super-duper tool roll made by hand in the USA or imported from a mass manufacturing factory in a third world country? Hmmm... If I thought I could get away with it, I'd make tool rolls all day if I could get $50 a pop. Johanna Quote

If I thought I could get away with it, I'd make tool rolls all day if I could get $50 a pop. Those would be pretty cheap and easy to make, even without the mass-production shortcuts. If they're getting away with it, I bet you could, too. But, just as you observed, it depends upon where you market it. You would have to somehow get the product in front of the eyes of a wood crafter who takes his/her craft seriously, which would probably rule out outlets like Home Depot or the local lumber yard. But I'm not a marketing expert, Lord knows. But my bruises have taught me much about the subject in recent years. Quote
Contributing Member Jordan Posted October 15, 2007 Contributing Member Report Posted October 15, 2007 Fine woodworking magazine would be the best choice as they cater to the serious hobbyist and the professionals, when I was into woodworking that was pretty much the only magazine worth the cover price.
