ClayB Report post Posted August 10, 2007 I mentioned in a previous post that Paul Burnett was working on a newsletter and some free online lessons. The first one is out, and I think it is something anyone interested in improving thier leather carving check out. The first lesson discusses using your swivel knife to create depth in your carvings. Paul gives examples of different things to practice on to improve your swivel knife work and explains why you need to vary the depth of cuts to create depth. The newsletter also includes information on where Paul will be giving lessons and some advertisements on where to get his other lessons etc. I am really impressed that Paul is sharing his knowledge and expertise in these free lessons and I hope a lot of people take advantage of his generosity. To sign up for the free newsletter and online lessons, go to his website paintingcow.com and click on the "free online lessons" bar. It's really simple. ClayB Report post Posted October 9, 2007 The second lesson in Paul's FREE online carving course is now available. It's a month late due to an illness, but I think it was worth the wait. And the good news is Paul is doing better and WILL be teaching in Fort Worth!! This second lessons talks about beveling and goes into things like which sides of a line to bevel, how deep to bevel, and best of all, WHY. The next lesson is going to go into moisture for carving and tooling. You can get his free lessons by going here http://paintingcow.com/free_lessons.html

ClayB Report post Posted November 30, 2007 The November issue of Paul Burnett's free online lessons are now available at http://paintingcow.com/free_lessons.html. If you haven't been checking these out, you are missing out on some great information on how to carve leather. This months lesson goes into detail about moisture content in leather for carving. It also tells the sequence for using tools to best use the moisture you have put into your leather. Along with that, he explains how tools like undercut bevelers, stops, cams, veiners etc. are supposed to work. Paul shows the proper way to use cams and veiners on scrolls which is a place I see a lot of people having trouble. Paul advertises his "for sale" lessons quite a bit in his newsletter. I have some of them, and have more of them on my Christmas list. His lessons are some of the best intruction I think you will find anywhere. I see that he is also going to be making some of his previous class lessons available for purchase. If you are serious about improving your leather carvings, you really owe it to yourself to check out these lessons, and the best part is, he is giving away a lot of it for FREE!!!! Next months free lesson will be on use of a modeling tool
