Problems with Leather Balm with Atom Wax

Maybe some of you can help me out.

I have had a recent problem finishing pieces with Leather Balm with Atom Wax.  In the past, I have used this as a finish on dark pieces and have had good results.  However, I recently dyed some pieces with Feibings Pro Oil Dye (English Bridle) and when I used the Leather Balm it resulted in dark splotches all over the pieces.

I am applying with a cloth and rubbing it into the leather.

Should I try a different way of applying it?

Might simply be the leather.  Try again on a different brand.

Probably the leather but hard to believe a rocket scientist would have that kind of problem, lol
