How do I get the ammonia smell out of veggie tanned leather I've bought?

Posted

I’ve never noticed this type odor in any leather I have purchased.  Suggest you unroll the hide and leave it in a well ventilated room out of the sunlight and see if it dissipates in a few days.

I think I remember reading that some foreign tanneries use urine in their vegtan. Not sure if it's true, but I have read it here several times.

The smell is liable to return when you wet the leather.

I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with.

Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day.

From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
