Members Kopke Posted February 17, 2019 Members Report Posted February 17, 2019 How do I get the ammonia smell out of veggie tanned leather I've bought? Quote
garypl Posted February 17, 2019 Report Posted February 17, 2019 I’ve never noticed this type odor in any leather I have purchased. Suggest you unroll the hide and leave it in a well ventilated room out of the sunlight and see if it dissipates in a few days. Gary Quote Cowboy 4500, Consew 206RB-4
bikermutt07 Posted February 17, 2019 Report Posted February 17, 2019 I think I remember reading that some foreign tanneries use urine in their vegtan. Not sure if it's true, but I have read it here several times. The smell is liable to return when you wet the leather. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
