Lougaya Report post Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) Hello, my name is Lougaya, I am working with leather since 4 years, especially to make soft sole moccasins. I feel very lucky to had the chance to learn this rare skill while travelling in Australia. After a full training with Jory Best, an old Amerindian, I started making moccasins professionally. After getting more confident with the skill, I started making my own patterns and teaching to small groups of people. I have probably stitched over 500 pairs by now and taught directly to almost 100 people. What I like the best is to witness the first time people put their moccasins on. Their smile and spontaneous dance fills my heart with joy. I experience a great satisfaction in continuing to refine this art and sharing it to help people realize that it's actually quite easy to make their own shoes. The picture is one model I can make. Lougaya Report post Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) I learnt that one from my teacher who is from the lineage of the Powathans (Pokahantas' tribe) but I think it's not a traditionnal design.
