Guest Chris Posted November 23, 2019 Report Posted November 23, 2019 Hi, my mum spilt her tea and left the cushion to dry by the fire. this morning it was hard where the tea dried. I tried leather cleaner but it did nothing and had to then use hot water to dissolve the dried milk park which did seam to work. I cleaned the whole cushion with cleaner and used mink oil but as its drying the stains are still there. It is removable and i could try the washing machine as did wash a leather handbag twice this way which worked great but I am too worried about that much water, shrinkage etc so would rather find another way if poss.
Northmount Posted November 24, 2019 Report Posted November 24, 2019 The tannin in the tea probably helped to turn the cushion dark. If there was any iron products in the original upholstery leather, it would react and turn towards black. Oxalic acid or barkeeps friend may aid in bleaching it back, but may also take more color out than you wish. It should have been rinsed and cleaned immediately. BTW, posting twice in a row doesn't get your post approved any sooner. Be patient. Tom
