While looking at skiving knives I notice some are called Lap Skiving Knives. What is the difference in use between a lap skiving knife and an ordinary one? What is lap skiving?

lap = overlap, underlap, two pieces of leather skived so the thickness doesn't change when they are lapped together. each piece of leather is usually skived at a taper. Skiving or paring is a basic term for thinning a piece of leather.
