Well I had another leatherworker share with me a hat he had added a carved leather piece to the bill.  I thought it was neat so for fun I made this one up.  Carved maple leaf and deer antler, stamped the letters.  Machine sewed it on.

Fun stuff

That looks cool! Does it add much overall weight to the hat?

It added weight and I was concerned about that. But at least to me doesnt seem to be bad.  But I can see some may not like the extra weight so I suspect it's a preference item.

I think not was around 7 ounces  I didnt measure just grabbed what felt correct.  I think I might drop back a bit maybe 5oz if I do it again.  I like 7 or 8 for carving I'm just comfortable with that thickness carving.

This came out nice!  As for weight, I can only see it adding a few ounces to the hat.  From someone that used to wear a hard hat on a day job, that additional weight seems pretty inconsequential.  YMMV of course!  I've used from 2 oz up to 9 oz like this before, all seemed to work out ok.

That is a great project idea and in particular, a great gift idea for just about any guy... cause not everybody wears guns or knives! :)

... which I don't understand...
