esantoro Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good sturdy portable work table, sturdy enough to cut leather on? Thanks, Ed
Michael Sheldon Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Define portable. Move across the room? Move in a large truck? Collapse down to fit in compact car trunk? Everyone's definition of portable will vary a bit. As I get older, even my own definition changes

Michael Sheldon Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I think I'd be tempted to get a Black and Decker workmate, plus a heavy slab of wood to clamp on top of it. You can get laminated "butcher block" table tops at your local Home Despot. Screw a piece of 2x2 to the back for the workmate to clamp onto. It would be stable, you could put whatever size top on it you want, and it would fold down to the size of a large suitcase.
esantoro Report post Posted October 1, 2007 I think I found the perfect portable work table: http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Tables-Recta...8689&sr=1-1 Free shipping and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. This 48" x 24" table is a nice size. I also wanted to get the 72" x 30" table but because of the size there would be a shipping surcharge of $77, more than the table itself. I'll keep looking for the larger table, and put this small one to work. ed
Luke Hatley Report post Posted October 1, 2007 (edited) ED.. you can get the same table or one like it at your neighbor hood home ctaft store. in Memphis it is Loews or Home Depot.......SAVE ON THE SHIPPING I HAD ONE LIKE IT AND IT WORKED GREAT. ALSO AT YOUR OFFICE SUPPLY ARE TABLES LIKE THAT. Edited October 1, 2007 by Luke Hatley
esantoro Report post Posted October 1, 2007 This one was free shipping for $54 and tax. I've seen many fold-up tables and they all were pretty rickety. Customer reviews seem to suggest this one is better. We'll see.
Michael Sheldon Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Tables like that will work fine for a lot of things. What they WON'T work for is stamping and using belt end cutters, etc that require use of a hammer/mallet/maul. The flexibility of the table will absorb the blow, then rebound it.
