Edge finishing thin soft veg tan goatskin

Hi

I'm making an embroidery scissor case from some veg tan goatskin that is quite soft.

I've tried burnishing the edges after beveling them with an edger, using a wooden burnishing tool. The edges are tending to mushroom. Is there a better way of finishing the edges or should I just leave them bare.
