Regis Report post Posted September 11, 2007 We all purchase tools and equipment and have varying experiences with them. There are also tons of questions here on the forum about which is better or worse. Could we have a section for personal review of tools or machines that we've purchased and used. I was thinking "freestanding" review without replies. Any questions would be in regular forum or PM as the review would stand (in its date and time). More than one person would likely review the same products, sometimes differing in experience. Some of the review sites allow anyone to post so the credibility is often questionable (competing salesfolk). Just a thought, Regis
Art Report post Posted September 11, 2007 Hi Regis, It would be interesting but I could see how something like this could run off the tracks, especially with no possible rebuttal. The are some folks who just shouldn't own machines and have nothing but problems and even catastrophies with perfectlly useable equipment. I can just imagine someone in the ultimate moment of frustration taking computer in hand and turning up the flame, perfectly valid from their point of view, but accurate? I would much rather try and get that person up and running than read a scathing review. If you want to review a machine, I have no problem seeing it in the Leather Sewing Machines forum, but I would hate to see someone pass up a machine because of an unrebuttable bad review. We want to maintain the integrity of Leatherworker.net and to do so we (or whomever is moderating, ME in Leather Sewing Machines) would have to seriously fact check and maybe even mediate a bad review before letting it stand, or even review the reviews before they are posted. However anyone should be able to post their experiences and if they are problems ask for help, and the experience and cooperation of the group should work toward getting things fixed. Now good reviews; I'm always happy to see someone who enjoys their machine or experience. However ultimately, Johanna will have to say how something like this will work or not. Regis Report post Posted September 11, 2007 (edited) I understand the "There are some folks who just shouldn't own machines and have nothing but problems and even catastrophies with perfectlly useable equipment. " I lived it when I ran an IT tech support department. Happily bow to the wisdom of this. Regis Edited September 11, 2007 by Regis
Johanna Report post Posted September 11, 2007 I don't think there would be any problem with posting tool reviews in the tool forum. We might learn something new about the tool from the different perspectives and experiences. People could refute or confirm another's impressions, so no thread would seem "one-sided". You have really good ideas, Regis, keep 'em coming! Johanna
