Do I need to take anything else off? I assume i need to bend only that small section of the shaft that is sticking out?

If you can make a very simple jig to just touch the shaft you should be able to see where the bend is by rotating it.

Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500.

Chinese shoe patcher; Singer 201K (old hand crank)
