Tom Katzke Report post Posted October 20, 2006 I am about to get multiple email accounts set up. I have not had any trouble with Outlook Express 6 (I know it is supposed to be terribly unstable). I have about 20,000 messages stored and like I said no problems. I have used multiple email accounts before and I recall it was not all that easy to keep track of them. What are your favorite email clients and why. I must say that I am still using Win 98 and have no need to change yet. In fact I may just change to a Mac some day (take that Gates). dsenette Report post Posted October 21, 2006 what's the purpose of multiple accounts? as far as softwear check out thunderbird....it's free/open source so you don't have to pay...it's stable...and it usually looks nifty..it can do everything outlook (real outlook...not express) can do...and it SHOULD run on 98 (hopefully you're on 98SE).... depending on the "mail account" types...some places will allow you to "forward" your mail to a central location automatically (some of the web based emails can do this)....also alot of the webbased email "brands" can interface with outlook (i.e. hotmail and yahoo) so that the mail from those accounts shows up in a different folder within outlook (or thunderbird) so you don't have to log in online to check your online mail....you just need to fire up outlook (or thunderbird) while you're online Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

pepin1948 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 Some people prefer multiple accounts because they will give out different addresses to different people / organizations. I have a friend who uses her hotmail account for giving out to the majority of askers, hence it's where she gets the most spam. She only uses her yahoo account for personal friends, and it gets less spam. Anyhow, multiple accounts aside....I have only one, and it's att.net - however, I use Eudora on my home computer to access my email. I love Eudora! It doesn't really help you with your question though...but that's my .02. The only trouble I've had with att.net is that for some reason one friend of mine keeps getting her emails bounced because her service (or mine?) views the address as spam. She's not been able to figure it out yet. But since she's another one with multiple email accounts, she just emails me from her other one. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Johanna Report post Posted October 30, 2006 Tom, I know you said you have no interest in web based mail, but for anyone else reading this thread, especially those of you who would like to see attachments but dislike the sheer volume of mail associated with some of the Yahoo Leather lists, GMail is the answer. GMail groups mail by topic title, which means when people reply and do not change the subject title, you can read "conversations" neatly grouped together. GMail indicates which ones you have read by opening the newest one which is very efficient when you'd like to review the rest of the earlier discussion. One click and the thread is expanded. Your entire mailbox is archived, including attachments. It's easy to make folders and get organized, but you don't really need to bother because a search is quick and easy.Your outgoing composed email has all the bells and whistles for customizaton on the toolbar. Attachments can be archived or downloaded. Spam is filtered accurately, better than any other service I've seen, bar none. I have got nearly 10,000 messages stored on one account, many with attachments, and I am using 30% of my alloted space. GMail was the only way I could get my Yahoo Leather list mail under control, and those of you who belong to the same lists can certainly understand being overwhelmed with leather related mail, especially when most of it you don't care to read anyway. Gmail even uses >> signs to flag you of "list" mail, so you can distinguish what is personal with a quick glance. Yes, I'm a fan. But I enjoy seeing the pictures that come over the Yahoo lists, so the digest or reading mail off the web wasn't an option for me. Meanwhile, Outlook Express was bogged down, and I couldn't find what I wanted to when I needed it anyway. (Outlook Express was never intended for storage). GMail is the best way I've found to handle the Yahoo mail associated with those Yahoo leather lists, because those groups won't be adopting a more sensible or realistic method of communication like this style of forum any time soon.
