pcjc2 Report post Posted November 6, 2020 Hi, Does anyone know whether it is possible to adjust the horizontal position of the needle bar frame on an old-casting 1245 machine? The service manual for the older machines posted here doesn't show this adjustment, and it doesn't seem to be identical (in terms of position stops to loosen) as in the new casting 1245 manual. My machine is a long arm (34") clearance 1246, converted at some point in its past to single needle. It is not the exact same castings as a "standard" 1245 listed in the manuals, but most adjustments appear to be the same (with the exception of presser-foot lift clearance). The needles on my machine touch the left hand side of the feed-dog hole. They aren't deflected, but unless the intention is that the feed-dog forms a kind of guard, probably isn't exactly correct. My feed-dog is evenly located in its opening, so if anything were to move - it would need to be the needle. I'm not sure how it is arranged on a "normal" length old (or new) casting 1245, but I notice that the stationary presser foot bar passes directly through a fixed portion of the machine casting on mine... if the needle bar frame moves, it will adjust the left-right alignment between the stationary presser foot and the vibrating one (and the needle bar). Pintodeluxe Report post Posted November 6, 2020 It was my understanding that there is no left-right adjustment of the needle bar on these machines. Try loosening the needle bar and rotating it 90 degrees. Re-check needle to feed dog clearance. If it changed, that to me would indicate a bent needle bar.
