What does "Standard Workspace" mean in regards to sewing machines?

I keep seeing many industrial machines list "Workspace: Standard Workspace" in their specs. Googling turns up nothing useful about what this means. Anyone know?

doesn't mean anywhere what you might think it does. 
it's more of a statement of special requirements. 3 phase electric, Compressed air, etc.

It is the space to the right of the needle and the head of the machine.  A lot of industrial sewing machines in the older generation work space was 10.5"

well I stand corrected. 
dealing with machines, work space always meant what was needed to make the machine work.

"Standard workspace"  is 10" for an industrial machine +/-. For a domestic machine it's 7".

Medium is anything from 10" to 18" and that's where "long arm" machines start, approximately.

I have machines which are 7", 10- 1/4", 10-1/2", 16" all straight stitch, and am considering a 20" zig zag machine for a future purchase.
