206RB Identification Help, Clone?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at purchasing a used machine, claimed to be a 206RB.  I'm questioning if it is really a 206RB?  Or a clone??

The logo on the front of the machine is rectangular.  From pictures online the Consew logo is oval.

Also the label with model number looks very different from the Consew label I'm able to see from 206RB machines on the internet.  Font looks different, doesn't say made in Japan as I would assume a machine from this vintage would say.

From machines on the internet, I would expect the Consew label to be oval.

The ID tag from the internet is below as well.

Consew 206RB, RB-1 and -2 were ALL made by Seiko.  'Seiko' will be embossed on the bed of the machine, that is how you can tell.

Your may be correct in wondering if this is a genuine Seiko/Consew.

Many Consew's had that rectangular logo, the oval painted white/red Consew logo you have, and some 206RB-5s have 'Consew' painted blue.  This is not a good indicator.

It could, also be a copy from Taiwan http://www.chikon.com.tw/ck-8bl.htm

I'm also noticing machines from the vintage of 206RB-1 and 206RB-2 are grey color.  Where might I find the Seiko embossed on the bed?  I can have the seller send a pic of the area.

Did you end up getting it?

This is way late, but I just ended up with a 206rb - here’s the Seiko cast under the bed just visible behind the shaft.
