Chaps by Dave Shelley

Recommended Posts

I just got through looking at a Very Old Pair of Chaps.

Hopefully someone recognized the Makers Mark.

"DAVE SHELLEY

MAKER

CODY WYO" ......#33

Also cut into the leather belt was the name Oliver Anderson .Also

was cut Z-T and what looked like a brand , that could have been

a pitchfork with a bar or line under the mark.

Most unsual feature was the pockets, they were not sewn to

the outside, but a piece of leather was placed on the inside and sewn,

pocket opening was along the edge of the chap leg.

There were Batwing Chaps , Fastened by small spring clips.

The Conchos were Silver Looking, probably Nickle with rolled

edges that were turned under so that no sharp edges were showing.

Hopefully some one can help. :whatdoyouthink:

Luke; Dave Shelly was a prominent gear maker in Cody. He opened his shop in 1908. He died in 1941 and his widow sold the shop in 1945. As for value remember condition is everything infact if there is any damage you will be better off leaving it alone than allowing someone to do a repair job that might be less than perfect. Things right down to the type of thread used in the repair are critical. Finally are the chaps for sale and can I see pictures of them. As for the inside pockets they were very commonly done like this in days gone by. Thanks Greg

Greg thanks for the information. I will pass it on to the owner of the Chaps.

There has been NO repairs to them , they are not Ragged and far from being worn out.

They have been used ,but honest use.I did have cold chills when i looked at them.

Yes the Chaps are for sale. I will do my best as to posting photos this weekend.

and again thank you for the information.
