mjvkop Report post Posted August 25, 2021 Hi all, I have a Juki LU-562 that I use to sew heavy fabrics and leather, as well as foam, and have a question I'm hoping this forum can help me with. I cannot seem to adjust the height of the presser foot higher than about half-way to the maximum height adjustment. When I try to adjust it higher than that, it feels like their is some sort of mechanical stop within the machine that is preventing it from progressing prior to the needle entering the fabric. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!!
Constabulary Report post Posted August 26, 2021 I´m not sure but I think I recall a picture where the bell crank lever behind the face plate is touching the casting but I´m not sure if it was in the same regard.
mjvkop Report post Posted August 27, 2021 Thanks for the response Constabulary, is this something that can be adjusted?
Constabulary Report post Posted August 27, 2021 (edited) This is the thread I had in mind (BCL touching casting) - not sure if this happens in your machine https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/74521-singer-111w155-presser-foot-adjustment/ Open the face plate and check what is going on mechanically. You can also limit the foot lift this this guide thingy here that slides up and down in the "fork" thingy - see picture. Maybe you have to lower it. Maybe the above helps already but we cannot judge your machine from the distance or w/o seeing pictures or a video. mjvkop Report post Posted August 29, 2021 After tinkering with the machine for a while today, I realized that the issue was that the upper feed arm that connects to the presser foot adjustment bar is binding against the casting at the top of its stroke. To adjust for this I assume I need to adjust the worm gear that controls the motion of this arm, but I was under the impression that you only needed to do that on the singer 111 class machines, not the juki and consew clones. I’ll try to upload a picture shortly.
mjvkop Report post Posted August 29, 2021 (edited) Here is an image of the piece that is binding the casting. I was reading through this thread, which made me stumble upon the difference between the juki presser foot adjustment and the singer 111w. See specifically the posts from March 1st, and the reference to the singer 111w manual. Edited August 29, 2021 by mjvkop
Wizcrafts Report post Posted August 30, 2021 The lowered position of the presser foot lift block (which gets lifted by both the hand and foot lifter) has an effect on the total lift. I set mine as low as possible to get the maximum available lift. Then, there is that block that goes up and down inside the split bar portion of the presser bar. It may be hitting the top of the head too soon. Loosen its set screw and let it move down just enough to let the feet have a full range of alternating motion.
