Members PalmettoPatriot Posted September 27, 2021 Members Report Posted September 27, 2021 I need help yall. This is probably my 3 tooled project and it's my first project where I incorporated paint. I used Tandys Eco-Flo cova color paint and finding medium brown antique finish. I painted my colored areas first and went back to touch up some lighter spots and then applied the antique finish. All was going well until I wiped away the excess and noticed the blotches where I touched up the paint. I'm assuming it was not fully dry in those spots and absorbed more of the dye. What is the best way to fix this? Can I simply paint over it and re-apply the finish. Or should I strip the finish and paint off and start over? If so then what's the best way to do so? Quote
Members PastorBob Posted September 27, 2021 Members Report Posted September 27, 2021 got pics? I actually had it worse. The antiquing smeared my paints all over the piece. When I asked Tandy guy for assistance, he suggested antiquing / staining first, then painting. Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted September 27, 2021 Contributing Member Report Posted September 27, 2021 Problem was/is both the antique and paint use the same solvent. Put on a barrier, aka a resist, or block, first, apply antique, then paint To correct now, put on a resist/block/barrier, then repaint I use a local-to me version of 'Mop & Glo' floor 'polish', which is actually a water thin acrylic varnish Quote
Members PalmettoPatriot Posted September 27, 2021 Author Members Report Posted September 27, 2021 It turned out exactly the way I wanted, except for the spots that I had touched up. I do want a darker finish so I had planned to do another coat of finish, I'm thinking i should do that before applying a resist? Quote
Members PastorBob Posted September 27, 2021 Members Report Posted September 27, 2021 very nice! Just made an acrylic stamp using that same exact pattern. Letters are SOO hard to get right. You did a nice job. Quote
Members PalmettoPatriot Posted September 27, 2021 Author Members Report Posted September 27, 2021 Yes the lettering was the most difficult part, I think I'll use some lettering stamps for small letters from now on Quote
