exposed blade strap cutter

do these exposed blade strap cutters work better than the wood ones that go through the two slots? 

I'm having a hard time getting my thinner leathers through the wood one as you cant push them through as easy as something  like a stiff veg tan

I think you'd have the same problem.  On thinner leather with the wood one I cut a taper or an angled point and stick that through then pull the leather through.
