Two open top knife sheaths

Recommended Posts

Hey all, Two open top knife sheaths. Nothing fancy, just functional with minimum trim. Pattern designed by me. This size fits a smaller folding knife, like the Buck 112, or most others that are 4.25 " tall. They are fully lined and have a sturdy belt clip. The black sheath was made in 45 minutes- start to finish.

thanks for viewing!

Tim

Nice work Tim. Is it hand sewn? My sewing is atrocious (probably as bad as my spelling). Can't seem to keep a straight line.

Beautiful work, Tim. Can't believe you can make something that nice in just 45 minutes! Great job. :guitar:

Best, -Alex

p.s. Do you incorporate welts in this design, or is it simply one piece that folds over?

Hey Alex, thanks! Yes, I use a 3/8"welt. It keeps the sheath from being too tight. The black one is black latigo, so that cuts out any hand dyeing time.

Nice work there Tim, you're going to have to tell us all how you are able to stamp into Latigo and get it to stay.

Great job Tim. I really like the shape of your knife cases...gives a nice stylish look. I use black latigo also when the project needs to be black, but if you ever have to do a lot of stamping or floral tooling you may want to give black skirting a try. This is a vegetable tanned leather just like tooling leather but it is dyed black. I have found for tooled projects this works better for me because it cases well and holds the stamping better. Latigo works well also but sometimes (depending on the stamp) I can't get the depth that I want in the stamping.

Looking at your shealths makes me think I need to keep up with style and rework some of my shealth and scabbard patterns. Great job.

A couple more questions: the welt is 3/8 wide? How do you keep the rivit on the belt clip from scratching the knife. Same question about the concho fastener.

Thanks all for the comments! Much appreciated! SkipJ, I line the sheath with a thin black pigskin. There is no exposed metal on the inside. Thanks for asking!
