  1. I'm so glad i came across this thread, I'm starting to make greyhound collars and was wondering what thickness to do in the middle. I'm attempting one this week so will see how it goes! Does anybody know where in England I can get leathers that are already dyed in red, pink, blue and yellow? I have tried Abbey, La Prevo and Batchelers, but La Prevo only have old stock and the others don't have any. I am wanting to offer more 'fashionable coloured' collars as well as my traditional ones. I have had a few enquiries for other colours and am new to leather work so haven't actually dyed any myself yet. thanks in advance, Dee
  2. Thank you I shall take a look. Thanks for your kind comments. Onwards and upwards I hope!
  3. Just joined leatherworker.net such talented people! Looking forward to getting to know everybody

  4. Hello, I'm new here and have recently completed a summer school learning how to handstitch leather goods. My aim is to be able to produce my current ranges in leather. In particular veg tan. The following I made while on the course (I had such workshop envy!!) And the following is my first attempts at applying my new skills at home! I wonder if somebody could help, I haven't been able to afford a skiving machine (is that the correct name?) so have just been using my paring knife for now on smaller items. Hence the reason for building up my pet range for now (bags to follow one day!). When applying diamante/studs I realise the collar would be best lined. What is the best leather for this? Should it be pigskin? And then when applying it, is it just a case of glueing it in place and stitch over? I've also found that burnishing the edges takes up most of the time - is there a secret to making this process quicker or just keep going?! Thanks in advance, I hope you like my first attempts. Looking forward to expanding my skills with the help of this forum. *Just realised my bag image didn't attach and not enough space, will post in a separate post!x
  5. Thank you John, I spent last night reading a lot of interesting posts, and the dog collars and cuffs in particular caught my eye! I only know the basics so far, but I already am keen to learn the carving techniques I've seen. Beautiful!
  6. Hello, I'm looking forward to meeting everybody. I am a designer and maker of fashion and pet accessories and have just started to make handstitched leather products to expand my company. I am used to working with fabric but since attending a leather making course last month I have fallen in love with the art of using leather for my designs. So far my leather selection is still small but I can't wait to create lots more products. It really is satisfying finishing that final stitch and seeing the end results! I'm looking for advice on how to develop my new skills and where to find outlets where people may be interested in purchasing my products Thanks Dee
