  1. Just tried the wood stain markers on a wallet last week. Worked fine and seems to penetrate well, but the leather soaks up a lot of stain and the tip dries out quickly. In the end, I'm not sure anything is gained over just using leather dye. That said, I have used India ink on the edges of projects that I've vinegarooned black. I use the brush tipped markers from the art store. Gives a pure black, goes on easy and holds up well.
  2. I made one the using the same process as KFC2013, except that I dyed the leather before wet forming and I may have used pvc pipe instead of dowels. This method seems easier to me than forming each side and then sewing it together. Just feels like there's less room for error as far as getting things lined up.
  3. In the bottom right hand corner of the blueprint it gives the dimensions as 3.5" x4.5". It would seem to be the closed dimensions so you're looking at 3.5" tall x 9" wide for part D, where the 3.5" is measured from the top to the cutaway part (if that makes sense. If you can't get the printout to scale right and don't want to redraw/rescale it yourself you might want to check out the Patterns and Templates section of this forum: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showforum=9 There are a few wallet patterns there. This one has instructions, pattern, and isn't too far off from what you're looking at: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=54776&page=1
  4. I've used fiebings black oil dye to "ebonize" guitar fingerboards and bridges. It seems to work fine, holds up to normal wear without a finish on it. A bow is going to see a little heavier wear than a guitar bridge so like you mentioned you'll want to put a finish over it. I would guess that an acrylic or poly finish would work fine. You might need to spray it to keep from lifting the dye during application. Test on scrap.
