paris3200 Report post Posted October 21, 2008 Yes this one I'm going to leave natural. It was just intended to be a prototype to hammer out some design issues. I've also got to determine what dye to use. I had some Angleus that I had to cut dramatically to get the color I wanted, but the cutting caused the leather to dry out. If you tape a 5/16" dowel rod on top of your pistol you can mold a nice sight channel that will smooth out the draw, make the holster stronger and keep the front sight clean. I bought a 1 1/2" bar of cold rolled steel to use as a block to shape the belt channel in my front belt loop; you might give that a try to make the holster easier to thread a belt though. paris3200 Report post Posted October 21, 2008 Jeff, The dowel rod for the sight channel makes sense. I will give it a try. I am a little confused about the use of the steel bar. Do you place it through the loops in the molding process to get the holster in the correct shape for the belt? Gun Fighter, You've got a real valid point about stitching around the belt slot. I believe I will have to extend the holster a little in that area to have enough room for the stitching. I will give that a try though. BOOMSTICKHolsters Report post Posted October 22, 2008 If you have the resources to bend the bar on a curve, you can do that but it complicates things a little. If that is the way you want to do things, I suggest you do the belt shaping after you have boned the holster around the pistol.
