Well got around to making a holster for my mp40 to match the belt I made for myself a little bit ago.

The back is around 8oz I think, front is crazyhorse leather about 8oz backed by about 5oz.

Made a few mistakes with the stitching and for the first time in a very very long time my head knife slipped while cutting out the belt slots. Luckily it just cut the top layer of leather and it didnt go clean thru so since this ones for me I went ahead and glued the cut closed. It wont affect the life of the holster any just looked bad.

Nice. Have you added a glossy sealant coat on? Sorry if I don't have the proper terminology down yet.

Was this made in mind for the compact model as well? How well does the gun draw? Does the front sight hook on the holster when drawing?

Also, I found something out through Smith and Wesson. Smith and Wesson has a purchase program for only federal law enforcement officers that allow them to purchase guns very cheap for personal use, but is limited to a firearm purchase every three months. So if you know any federal law enforcement with arrest powers and firearms, ask them if they would like to help increase your firearm collection. I just ordered mine, and having a few other officers I work with order on my behalf. Think of it as, "Gun of the Month" club.

I'd be very careful with that... Sounds a little too close to a 'straw purchase' to me... When you fill out the 4473 form to purchase a firearm, the first question asks if you're the actual buyer of the firearm listed on the form. Your are not considered the actual buyer if you are buying the firearm for someone else. If your friends are buying the gun for you to obtain the discount from S&W, they are not buying the gun for themselves and are indeed lying on the form, which is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison in addition to fines.

I really like how you constructed your holster, with the outer piece lined and the inner piece w/ grain side in. Very cool, it makes a lot of sense. I guess you could call it "semi-lined" ?

I've never made a lined holster, and I've always been curious about the work flow when stitching the lined piece. I guess you obviously first stitch across the top and bottom before gluing? Which would necessitate precisely lining up the top & bottom stitch lines with where you want your slide side & trigger side stitches. Is that right?

There are exceptions to that question, one is buying it for a gift and the other is if you do a immediate private sale with no background check to someone who you suspect is prohibited to possess a firearm. In the State of Oregon, you're allowed to do private sales but it does not absolve you from civil, and in rare cases criminal liability if you don't do a background check within 24 hours. Our State Police allow us to conduct background checks on and by private individuals. For insurance and investigation (in case they're stolen) purposes, I'm doing the paperwork the state allows. I'm good-to-go in my state, but I would recommend that every check it out in their state. Hopefully, because this program is only available to federal law enforcement, they know the laws where they live.

IMO, taking a 30,000 foot view of the law that applies here reveals it to be typical nanny state, Simon says legislation that mostly serves to turn otherwise honest people into felons. However, if a BATF agent ever got involved, it's likely that he would have a different opinion than mine.

It is kind of fascinating that Samuel apparently is a LEO. If it was me that posted that, I might decide that now was a good time to use the "edit" button if it's still available. In fact, if the mods wanted to be real friendly, they might decide to make that original post go away. In this political climate, it wouldn't be totally shocking if words written in an Internet forum were used as evidence.:poofan:
