  1. How does this look? 25 m for $7.00. I generally buy the waxed thread from a small Tandy distributor but it is short and not often in stock. I would like to grab a few colours. Does anyone have an image of what .6 mm looks like in a project? Thanks!
  2. I did, over a 1 inch pipe, they were soaked though as they went through the Vinegaroon and then the soda bath. I think they just stretched a bit, then when I laid them flat it lumped up some. I will just dry flat from now on.
  3. Thanks Chief, I'll try the rolling, they aren't too stiff, and agreed that they should be stiff for belts, just trying to avoid the dry feeling I guess. It did come from a pseudo-Tandy distributor, but he said he gets most hides from elsewhere. I will oil once more and roll them up!
  4. Hello! I bought a 10oz double shoulder for belts and it is quite stiff. I have finished it in three ways: some Vinegeroon (with Neatsfoot after), some Mink Oil and some Neatsfoot Oil. They are all still stiff, a couple hung to dry over a beam and when I laid them flat they have wrinkles where the bend was. I keep oiling and it is getting a little softer. Is it possible to oil too much and ruin them or should I soak them in oil? Thanks!

  6. Thank you for the pattern, will be trying it soon!
  7. Victoria, British Columbia. Thanks to both of you for the brokerage warning, haven't encountered that in the past. I see you are in Calgary, I contacted Caledon and they are in the running, have you bought there before?
  8. Far enough to not make a trip. I am used to these on clothes etc, generally based on cost of item, so it shouldn't be too much I don't think...
  9. Hello all, great resources here, thanks! I have been doing some research through old threads and just want a little more clarification before ordering. I am looking to make belts, initially for family and friends and possibly to sell. As opposed to blanks I would like to get bulk leather and believe I am looking for a double shoulder. Being in Canada has limited my options some. I checked my local shop, a Tandy supplier of sorts and they have single shoulders, 8-9 oz for about $130. They are fairly marked up and stiff. I have contacted a number of online retailers and shipping and tech issues seem to be the main obstacles. Roger at RJF is nice, but no electronic payment is an issue. What about Weaver? I have priced it there and with the current 20% off it is reasonable to have it shipped, although it is Tannery Run quality the CS rep said that they try to send the cleanest when requested. Basically asking for my best option to purchase bulk belt leather, if a different cut is an option that could work as well. Thanks!
