I am looking for historical information about San Fernando Valley Saddlery. James Arness's saddle from the Gunsmoke series is a San Fernando Valley Saddlery saddle. Mr. Arness is looking for some information to add to a description of the saddle to be used with a museum display. All information is welcome as long as it pertains to San Fernando Valley Saddlery. Thank You in advance for anything you can contribute. Matt

Hi everyone. I'm doing my research and trying to gain as much information about my saddle. It was made by Milton Cole. I'm considering selling it, but I want to be sure it's priced accordingly and hopefully find a collector that would really appreciate it's history. I know it was made prior to 1951, but I don't know the year. I have photos, but I don't know how to insert them here.

Hello, I have perused the forums but wanted some updated answers. I recently got a light oil Don Rich saddle in for cleaning. It is dry and coated in saddle lac. I messaged the maker for their suggestion but they did not answer. Any suggestions on removal without overly drying out the leather further?

I am looking at purchasing a Billy Cook saddle model #8509. It is stamped "maker" and from the Greenville TX era. It is supposed to be a reiner according to the seller. I cannot seem to find any info or even a picture of one anywhere. I called Billy Cook Sulphur, OK. today and they could not help me. Also tried the fellas at Horsesaddleshop.com and no help. If anyone knows anything about it or could send me a picture it would be greatly appreciated. I can pick this up at a bargain and it is suppose to be in immaculate condition. The seller is an older gentleman who is not tech savvy or capable of sending me pics. Thanks fellas. *** By the way I am new here and have lear…

Good morning guys, Just chipping away at tooling a saddle for myself and wanting to add some dye to it to make it pop. I’ve never played around with Dye/finish on a saddle, just wondering if there are any do’s and dont’s? I usually use fiebings pro dye, and tan kote and resoline to finish. I’ve been doing this one bridles and breastplates for a few years but curious to see if this is the same approach to take to a saddle since it’s an item that sees more contact and friction from the rider? Thanks in advance!

My great great grandfather would have made these saddles. Myself and family would love to track one down and talk about it and where his business has gone now. And if you’d be interested in selling.

Hello! I’m researching this 15” Bona Allen saddle, wanting to get a solid ID and price. I’m told it was custom made. “LEE” is stamped on a leg flap. It’s all silver, no nickel or aluminum. There is a bridle too. Thank you for any information.

Hey there , goodmorning! I am into leatherworking for the past 6/7 years. Always challenging myself and trying to find new things to make. Ever since I started my dream was to make a western style saddle for my horse. Unfortunately with my old horse this wasnt possible. Now I have a yearling... The thing is..it is itching so bad to start, but my Azteca will have to grow up first..so it still takes like 2 years and then she is not fully grown yet and will still change. I have the Stohlman book and watching tons of video's. Now you guys come in: A friend of mine suggested to just make a saddle and if it doesnt fit her later, just sell it. …
