I've been wanting to try my hand at motorcycle seats, but haven't had a request for one yet. So i did this job for a little practice and for advertisement. (there are a lot of bikers working at this manufacturing plant) the maintenance and control persons use industrial tricycles to haul themselves and their tools from place to place quickly inside this large indoor facility. the one pictured here is used by a friend of mine, and you can see from the before picture just how badly his seat was in need of recovering. he had gotten tired of it chewing on his tender parts and he thought i would just do a simple little recover job. I wanted to do it right, so i re…

I have seen some solo seats with inserts and like the looks of them..The braided inserts are what i am interested in. I need a little help as to how the insert is laid out..From the pics I have looked at ,the insert appears to overlap lap and one hole in the insert and two in the part it is attached to.

Just thought I'd post a pic of a seat I made for someone in New Zealand. It was a new challenge for me as it was a lot of sculpting(molding) and hardly any cutting and tooling. Only the outside and up into the ears, the eyeballs and mouth and a little around the nose were cut with a swivel knife and tooled, everything else was done with small sculpting spoons and pear shaders. I had to do a couple of practice pieces and get some advice (thanks Johan). Anyways, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and it looks much better in person.

Hi -- i'm making a cafe seat for my bike. I already have the foam shaped, the cover pattern made, and the leather cut, but can't figure out the best way to quilt the surface of the seat. I was planning to use a low-loft batting, but then i thought i might want to use a closed-cell foam or neoprene so it doesn't soak up moisture though the thread holes. Any suggestions? Also -- any suggestions for the material on the other side of the batting or cushion material from the leather? Muslin? Something else? thx, chad
