I quite like that. Love the colours. When I make barrettes, I use pieces of 8mm wood dowel with a blunted point and rounded off  at the other end. But I also  like tapered look in that.

Thank you! I used Eco Flow Waterstains for the colors and applied them with a paintbrush. The gold on the beak, the orange on the wings, and the grey "eyeshadow" were all custom mixed but the rest were straight out of the bottles. I like your suggestion for the blunted dowel.
