I bought a Singer 45K25 awhile ago and I am just getting around to figuring out how to work it. I am pretty new to leather sewing machines, but I think I am about to get started on a project. I was contemplating trying my hand at sewing with linen cord. I just got a lube pot and now I need to find some tread and needles. I have a few questions....

  • What linen thread should I buy? Left or Right twist? Where to buy?
  • What kind of lube should I buy? Advantages/Disadvantages
  • What size of needle should I buy?

Hi Nate, i think the needles should be about 21-25 that is what iam using at the moment (when i have time) with T207,T270 bonded nylon thread. i have only done two test runs with the linen thread and it turned out nice, i dilluted some old floorwax with turps then added a small amount of silicone oil and put it through the oil pot and it worked out well.post-32832-0-28835900-1455384651_thumb.jpost-32832-0-32744300-1455385129_thumb.j this is the same as using beeswax, melting it down then adding turps "once it is away from the cooker" the linen thread is 18/3 cord post-32832-0-65611800-1455385081_thumb.jpost-32832-0-46318800-1455385068_thumb.j the bobbin thread was not run through the wax, just the top thread and a nº 24 needle was used. it is a sticky sort of pull coming through your tension units so i had to back the tension all the way back on the first one then on the second wheel tension just go the half way around it, not the one and a half turn otherwise is resists too much.( at least for me). post-32832-0-64785200-1455385634_thumb.j
