Found an old 1927 Grafton and Knight leathercraft catalog, and one of their leather types is called ooze leather, its described as"a heavy velvet leather for tooling,"offered in 4 colors, for .64 per square ft. for a whole side.Any one ever hear of this.

Hello,The vast majority of my tooling is traditional,Visalia,Porter,I have a few Sheridan style tools, but I'd like to know where to buy , especially regular bevelers, other than Tandy products, have some nice old McMillians but I don't think they make stamping tools anymore. Thanks for your help.

I have a maul from Bearman, a couple from Barry King, and four from Wayne Jueschke. They each have their merits. If you ever get down this way, you are sure welcome to come by and try them all. Reading your interests below your avatar, we can kick around some western history and Charlie Russell too.
Hi Bruce, thanks for the invite,my wife and I are down in your area often,in-laws in Modesto, sorry we could'nt catch up with one another, about my King push beader, maybe next time ,best to you John

A quick way to determine if an edge is sharp. Look at the edge under a strong light. If you see any reflection it is not sharp.
Thanks to all of you for your information ,and I must apologize ,the knife I was referring to is the swivel knife, thanks again for your support.

Aside from your blade being chipped or it drags so badly it won't cut butter, what is your definition of "sharp", and how do you test or determine what is sharp, thanks

When you said 1/8" I assumed blade as the push beader comes in sizes 0,1,2,3 and 4. I just picked up a #3 push beader and the 1/8" beader blade. been playing with it and so far this is what I got. I use the blade to cut two, deep lines. I then bevel both sides and then use the push beader to crown the bead. I talked with Barry and he said most folks cut one line with a swivel blade and then follow that cut with one leg of the beader and let the other leg cut the second line or groove. From what I gather, the #3 is more difficult to use because of the size. He said the 0,1, and 2 are much easier to use. So, I'm going to keep on experimenting until I get an effect that I like. Hope this helps. Also check here to make sure you aren't confusing the push beader with edge beader. As in the knife both legs are the same on the push beader and one is shorter on the edge beader. Either way you need at least one swivel knife cut to follow.
thanks again John

Did you get a beader blade or an edge blade? The beader blade cuts with both legs and they are the same height. The border blade cuts with one blade and the other leg rides the side of the leather. Compare what you have here on Barry's page,

Let us know if this helps.
Thanks,
Jon
Jon what I have is a push beader, should have been clearer, not a beader blade that goes in a swivels knife.

Hello, have just bought a 1/8"wide King beader,Whether using a straight edge,or freehand, the inside or left leg doesn't leave a true impression, more of a scratch,is there a way to even or adjust the leg for an even impression. Thanks for the help

Sierra, I think your work is just gorgeous. One of these days, I'm going to try one of these. What weight leather do you use? Cheryl
7/8 ounce, is the easiest weight for me to mold properly. Thanks John

What is the best, but mainly the correct way to lay-out a dual pattern, floral and geometric.Transfer total pattern, and carve floral or stamp geometric first,vice-versa,Ive tried different ways. The transition is the important thing, I've but never had a step by step approach,. Thanks mucho.

Does anyone know of a bluebonnet tooling pattern? I have several books of floral patterns and design, but no bluebonnets. I don't mind purchasing the pattern, but I am having a hard time finding one. Thanks in advance.
Hello just Google bluebonnet,I find many flower patterns there.

Any thoughts on the steel blade versus the ceramic? Any way to re-polish a ceramic blade. Thanks.

This oak stool was caned by my wife, over 30 years ago,age caught up with it so I re-covered in leather with Ponderosa Pine cones, was able to tack into it by cutting a very thin strip of 8/9 oz. and insert it into the channel that holds the canning in. More furniture in my gallery,Thanks for having a peek.
