i posted this in another part of the forums but maybe started in the wrong place. i'm trying to make a vertical rig and coming to the conclusion that good retension and draw may not be possible without the spring steel closure that i see many fashioned with. i haven't had any luck searching for this hardware and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. thanks!

the way i do it is to gently pull them off with an artists eraser, works for me, i have descaled many and i have never damaged the skin that way.

you get faster after you do a few, what is slow is when you do one with a single length of thread, i did a couple that way and decided splicing is ok.

the burnish seems to cauterize the belt and there is very little bleeding. might be a day or so before i get full feeling back in my fingertips but heck this is only half the stitching i've had to do on inlay/overlay belts so i made out light on this project.

a lot of sweat and love went into this rig the wearer is sure to attract attention toting in this, i am pretty happy with how it came out. as with everything i make this is all saddle stitched by hand. whatchall think?

thanks for the advice. i found a hardware store last week that had #6 t-nuts, the smallest that i found at the big box stores and ace were #8's. these will work just fine but i've seen some that had smaller bases, will search some more online and will have a look at bolt depot.

i've been looking for a T type nut and screw that will work well with dot snaps. can anyone here point me to a good source? thanks!

i am just a novice and someone with more knowledge will correct me if i'm wrong but i think the edge kote is used as an alternative to burnishing, not part of that process. never used/needed gum tag myself but i think you will have better results if you will use wax.

i make a small hole then @1/4" back i make the slot by connecting 2 larger holes. i then cut the gap between the small hole and the slot, this is where the strap will rest when put on and is very secure. it takes a little break-in but i've made lots of these and never got one back, sometimes the girls will want a snap instead.

i can find them at the local hardware store.
