  1. I have trouble to get the good dye too.All I can find are "sub-assembly" or "no brands",some are ok if lucky. Anyway,I would use some black paste or tan ,after dye the leather, to make the corlor more natural,if not darker.
  2. Yes ,it is brass rod at the front flap.Recently I found it is useful sometimes.Trying on other design of this type. Thanks for you kind reply.. I am testing this and that ,When free ,I always make something new eagerly ,so I have not tried to file any patterns. They are just pile of cardboards.

  15. Hi Bob,I think we do the color by the same steps. Carving----> tooling ----> darker dye in the background with small brush(sometime I do not paint the background.Let the paste itself contrast the background and flower)------>emulsion lacquer(if I want the flower remain light color to get a strong contrast.Chech the cigar case below.for this one I did not use lacquer and let the paste remain some color on the flower)----->paste. Is it the same? As for the basket weave,I do not brush any dye, simply let the paste remain in the small low "valleys". Wish I am clear This one I did not use lacquer after dying the background and before the paste. The paste also can give some color to the flower.
