  1. Thanks, the second machine is a singer, it's the third one the M.G. Sewing one that I don't know what it is... And I haven't found out the actual 2nd one reference... I find a 47W but not a 47WSV14.... was it made specifically for something?
  2. Just picked up 3 "Garage" fresh machines... One, is the reason I went. I've been looking for this machine for years (at a good price) but I finally got my Singer 29-4. Complete with stand, wooden table, wood drawer and rust free and turning... It belonged to a 92 year old guy's dad... (I met the 92 year old) the serial date makes it 1898. The second machine is a Singer 47WSV14 I can't seem to find out anything on this machine. Seems to date by the serial number 1911-1919 but It looks newer to me. The third machine is from M.G. Sewing Chicago... it's the only thing I can see right now. Any idea's?
  3. Looking for an Osborne English End Strap Punch... Prefer 1" or there about .... used is fine. Thanks Derek
  4. It sews great, but that motor speed is wicked fast... I paid $85 for the head, table and motor. It turned rough, but once I got it home and oiled it up, added a new timing belt.. it runs like a champ... I think I got a great deal on this one.
  5. I made a wallet yesterday and everything was fine till I started sewing. It sewed fine, but the thread I used was all wrong. It didn't look right for a heavy biker style wallet. Which thread works well in this machine that looks great with a wallet? Or should I just hand stitch wallets and leave the machine to making canvas bags and such....
  6. I figured it out... ! I haven't hooked it up to the motor, but I can hand sew leather! what a sweet machine
  7. I should get my new timing belt in today, and have been looking for a section on replacing it as in a manual, but haven't found one yet.. Is that an online version floating out there? After an oil up and cleaning, I think I found a pretty good machine... nothing seems odd or off to me.
  8. Cleaned it up a little today and oiled it up. It now turns very smooth. some better shots of it... is this the screws you were talking about? this is the motor that came with it... is this a good one or will it run too fast?
  9. I'm going to open the oil up the machine this weekend. I know the timing belt needs replaced for sure. thanks for the heads up on all parts needed... I'm sure I'm going to be needing a few parts to get it sewing again.
  10. Just picked it up tonight. It will need a new timing belt. Even came with a bunch of bobbins and other stuff. It was at one time repainted gray... was black. I think they took the model plate off so I don't know which one it is. Now to oil it up and order some parts....
  11. I think I'm going to replace my old singer with this one or at least add to it. He's asking $85 for the whole set up. It sounds pretty good to me. Which model is this one? anything I should look for?
  12. so does anyone know if I need a new plate or is it not the plate? I can't find a picture of another one to see if mines messed up...
  13. I'll check on the knee lift. I think it's a combo of not using #69 thread too. but what did they use in 1918 when the machine was made? They didn't have nylon thread back then...? I also think it's my throat plate. When I tighten it totally down, the hook can't spin through it. Do I need a new one? And where do you find a new one? thanks Derek
  14. so what would one of these machines go for? I have a lead on one, on a table and motor, but missing it's foot and seems a little dry. Not sure if it runs, but what's a good price on one?
  15. Thanks Bob, I'll check on any extra thread on the upper tension. As to the needle plate, I can't seem to tighten it all the way or the needle has trouble. It might be a bobbin thing actually not being able to spin fully when I tighten it all the way. If i leave it just a little loose it works... So are you saying to tighten those two screws on the bobbin holder, next to the little oil sponge thing? thanks Derek
  16. So after playing with the top tension forever, I still just get a straight thread on the bottom (flat). So how do I add more tension to the bottom bobbin? I took it out and tightend the two screws next to the oil pad on piece that the bobbin goes into... is that correct? I didn't see how to on the manual...?
  17. I've always wanted a 29-4... It's such a beautiful machine, especially with the stand... If you are selling it I might be interested although shipping would kill me...
  18. Well it's working!.... almost It is sewing now but the tension is wrong. Also I can't screw down the center plate all the way or it freezes the bobbin ... might be age though. I tried it out on some scrap denim I had. The Bunching up is from my playing with the upper tension. Should I mess with the bobbin or try to get the top to fix it all? I also noticed it would skip a hole or toe on the top stitch... But at least it sews! I haven't tried leather yet, as I don't have the right thread yet...
  19. Okay... so the needle good... now I timed it so the hook passes through the "cut out" of the needle on the upstroke. Here's the video... is that correct? If so, let me get the proper thread to use and play with the tension. http://s325.photobucket.com/albums/k361/happyhooligan70/?action=view&current=MOV04639.mp4
  20. fantastic then, I'll try to use these and see if I can adjust the timing.... now as to adjusting timing on my household machines I unscrew the bottom shaft that goes under the machine and I can turn the bobbin then without the needle going up and down. On this machine when I unscrew the two that hold the shaft it is still turning. Are these different than a household machine or is it stuck in there and need a little force to break the bond?
  21. so I was going through a box of stuff it came with and found a pack of 10 needles labeled DBx95 or 16x95 are these the wrong size?
  22. [/media]here's a video of the trouble I'm having. Obliviously the bobbin won't be spinning as I took the plate off so you can see the action. Hopefully you experts will know instantly what I'm doing wrong.... also the hook strikes the needle just a tad.... 23. yes, sorry it is a roller foot machine not walking.... As to the needle I don't know, the machine came a box of needles with it. It belonged to a man who use to sew shoes for vaudeville and zelgfield girls... so it has a cool history. I'll take a video of where I might be having the problems. right now I'm just using a thicker thread but nothing huge.
