  1. Hi Guys, I'm making some book covers and have run into a few problems. I had cut, tooled, dyed, waxed, stitched and formed them in that order, but after running some water over the spine to form it, it left a very distinct darkened area where the water had been despite being completely dry. What am I doing wrong here? I tried to submerge it completely and drying it again thinking that maybe I could at least make it consistent, but not only did it not work, but the dye ran like crazy. Is there a step I'm missing for getting the ye to stay in? My apologies for my ignorance, but thanks for your help.
  2. Thanks guys! These are great tips. I'm going to try them out this weekend.
  3. Hi guys, I've been trying to make a lined ipod case but I just can't wrap my head around the best way to line it and have it look good (or even work good). I've tried cutting the pigskin to size and gluing it only to realize that it creates ugly folds in the bottom when I actually fold it up to stitch. I've also tried cutting an oversized piece and trimming it after stitching, but it leaves ugly edges even if I dye them. Any tips to make this work better? Thanks!
  4. Hi guys, I'm fairly new to leather and I recently got some 5-6 oz veg tan Herman Oak. I'm pretty happy with how it takes dye, but the back side of the leather is very rough. Almost like sandpaper. Is there a way to soften this? Thanks!
