  1. Joel, I do a lot of small projects like wallets, and get decent edging results from the following technique. After glueing the two edges together, use a sharp knife to shave down any parts of the edge that aren't even. Then round the edge corners on both sides using a Tandy #2 Beveler. Moisten the edge with water and go over it lightly with 400-grit extra-fine sandpaper. Then, apply a coat of Gum Tragacanth (or Fiebing's EdgeKote) and slick using a Sharpie pen. Repeat this last step one more time for a nice, smooth edge. Not sure I'd really want to do this on a long edge like a belt or saddle, but it works for me for the small stuff. -Alex
  2. Lots of good information in your post, Greg. Thanks for sharing your tips. -Alex
  3. Recently, I've seen several posts that cite Ohio Travel Bag as a good source for hardware. However, I've been warned by someone else that OTB only sells wholesale to commercial customers. So my question is: Can a hobbyist order from Ohio Travel Bag? Thanks, -Alex
  4. Hello, everyone: I wanted to introduce myself briefly, but first, thank the folks responsible for creating this leatherworking forum. It's great to have a place online where people can go to ask questions, offer advice, and share knowledge. Keep up the good work! I got started with leatherwork about three years ago. Since I have a somewhat short attention span , I focus on small projects like key fobs, wallets, and the occasional handbag. A visit to Colonial Williamsburg's harness shop last year inspired me to start doing everything the old way -- no electricity or power tools. It takes a little longer, but I enjoy the low-tech approach. Below is a simple key fob I recently finished. I'm glad to be here and suspect I'll be asking more questions than answering them, so having access to this forum's experts is much appreciated. Regards, -Alex
